Rotterdam (stoomschip, 1959)

De Rotterdam uit 1959 is het vijfde schip met die naam, in dienst van de Holland-Amerika Lijn (HAL). Het is een stoomschip met oliegestookte stoomketels en stoomturbines.

Het is een van de bekendste naoorlogse Nederlandse passagiersschepen. Het maakte tussen 1959 en eind 2000 het laatste decennium mee van de trans-Atlantische lijnvaart en was daarna een succesvol cruiseschip. Sinds 4 augustus 2008 ligt het schip als drijvende attractie (rondleidingen, hotel-café-restaurant) aan het Derde Katendrechtse Hoofd in de Maashaven in Rotterdam.

The Rotterdam from 1959 is the fifth ship with that name, in service of the Holland America Line (HAL). It is a steamship with oil-fired steam boilers and steam turbines. It is one of the best known post-war Dutch passenger ships. It experienced the last decade of transatlantic liner shipping between 1959 and the end of 2000 and was a successful cruise ship thereafter. Since 4 August 2008, the ship has been a floating attraction (guided tours, hotel-café-restaurant) at the Derde Katendrechtse Hoofd in the Maashaven in Rotterdam.
